March Madness Math Review

Image
Basketball finals are upon us and many of your students LOVE sports.  I know my elementary students look up to our high school students and really LOVE those students who are athletes.  Typically, in a NORMAL school year we would invite some of these athletes to our elementary schools/classrooms to help run our unit reviews and of course during basketball season, we make it a competition within our classrooms and use the brackets!  This year will be a little different but our students will still be super engaged because I have included some MYSTERY PIXEL ART for the review tasks!  As the teacher you will use one bracket and divide your students into 8 groups or use multiple brackets and let your students compete individually!  I love to take the defeated players in one competition and move them to another bracket so that the competition can continue. Students who advance within the bracket continue in the competition (depending on how you set up your comp...

Multiplication Fluency Packet

Image
I am a huge believer in supporting fact fluency.  I know.... I know... Common Core and every blog you read (from the experts) say..... "No more drills!"  I do believe we have to teach strategies and the understanding of facts before we can force students to timed drills.  They need to work with the numbers and discover how the math works.  However, once you are through that process students really need to work through practice and assessment. I've created this fluency packet to take you and your students through the entire process.  I have even offered some of the materials for FREE!!  Scroll down to read about each component of this amazing resource. Get the entire resource packet here ! This packet contains 4 different ways for your students to practice multiplication strategies.  These include arrays, groups of, repeated addition, and mixed practice.  Students match up multiplication sentences to each of these strategies and even have the...
